BOOK: Tragic (Rook and Ronin #1)
MY RATING FOR IT: 4 stars
Rook Walsh is TRAGIC
Because life so far – just sucks. Some girls get parents. Rook got the foster care system. Some girls get Prince Charming. Rook got an abusive frog. Some girls get lucky…
Rook got a second chance.
And she took it. Because when fate throws you a bone – you grab it with both hands and run.
Antoine Chaput knows the minute he spies Rook in his photography studio that she’s got The Look. The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.
Rook is paired up with top model, Ronin, and he’s everything her abusive ex-boyfriend wasn’t. Patient, gentle, happy, attentive, and sexy! He knows exactly what to do to make Rook blush for Antoine’s camera.
Rook’s luck changes in an instant and suddenly she’s the darling of the modeling world. It’s a dream job to go with a dream guy and all she has to do is look pretty and follow directions. But there’s always a price to pay – and Rook is about to get the bill.
MY THOUGHTS ABOUT IT
There is no surprise in telling that a J.A. Huss book is good, at this point it’s very clear to me that the woman is a genius at writing, but even as I have heard the most amazing critics about the Rook and Ronin series I was kind of afraid to read it, cause her books normally on a good day, tend to left me as a broken hearted mess of a person for days!!
Buuuut, that’s not because they are not good, it’s because they are sooo goddamn good that they give such hangover I cannot begin to explain….
Well I was wondering what to read next, and I remembered this series, so I put my big girl panty’s and give it a go, and it was such a surprise!!! Because even as the writing style was there and there were some sad moving moments, it felt so tender to me … the story was sweet and the pace was slow, there was not a super awful plot twist that got my heart wanting to come out of my mouth,(not that I don’t like those , cause I really do , but sometimes you just want to read a easier to digest kind of a book) but there were some very passionate moments (Ronin is a god!!!)
This Story is About a girl, (Rook) that’s down on her luck, and we very quickly realized that her old life was very hard and she suffered abuse, she’s so feed up with her bad luck, (cause she just got fired from a job) that even as she knows that she has no more money, she decides that she needs to have some sort of comfort after and awful day follow by and awful life, and she goes to get some Starbucks coffee. There her life changes when an opportunity to presents herself at a photoshoot appear out of nowhere.
That’s when everything changes for her because she meets Ronin, a beautiful guy who is supposed to work with her. She turns out to be perfect for the shoot, which by the way is called TRAGIC and who is more tragic at that point than her!!!
But Ronin has more to do with the studio than we first tend to believe and he has some secrets that Rook doesn’t know about or wants to know about cause even as the chemistry is immediate and we can feel a bond there, she is scared and wants to be in control of her life and choices and Ronin is very controlling which is a big no no for her.
The Story is very entertaining, you get wrapped up in this world of beauty, photography and skin, the fast pace life that they have and all the craziness.
You can feel right away the turmoil that Rook is in cause she start to fall way too fast for him, but it’s very obvious too that she and Ronin fit very well together ….
It definitely feels that the story it’s just starting to develop , we are left at the ending with no cliffhanger but with a promise of continuation , and it’s a warm and fuzzy feeling that’s developing inside me so I’m most definitely will dive in the second book right away ….
Like in 10 more minutes probably!!!
