Dark Duet

BOOK:  The DarK Duet Series (Captive in the dark, Seduced in the dark and Epilogue)

MY RATING FOR IT: 5 stars!!

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

This is a hard review to write, because this is by far one of my all-time favorites!!! And I’m very serious when I say that, cause this book did a number on me …

I decided to do a review of the 3 book at once, I don’t want to be too repetitive with my ohhh’s and Haaa’s . Besides if you read the first one you probably won’t stop and will read the other 2.

This book was a mind fuck, and when I finished the first one I didn’t know if I felt happy for Livvie or deeply sad ….

This is a twisted story of revenge and the people that get in the middle of that shitty situation.

Livvie is a pretty and shy teenage girl that get choose to be kidnapped to become a sex slave by the ruthless Caleb, he’s on his way to getting his revenged from the Man that took everything from him and his friend, and poor Livvie will play a big part in getting that revenged (even as she doesn’t know it yet)

“People often believed they were safer in the light, thinking monsters only came out at night.”

“Could she sense her life as she knew it hanging precariously in the balance? Could she feel his eyes on her? Did she have a sixth sense for monsters? The thought of it made him smile”

Caleb (the Male protagonist) is to train her to become a pliant slave and to understand that her life has change for ever …..He was hard to read, he was so good at times , sexy , demanding , but so very cruel, he was very confused , especially when he starts to developed some sort of caring feelings towards his slave girl.

“Like a Falcon, she needed the dark to understand who her master was. She would learn to trust him, to rely upon him, to anticipate what he wanted from her. And like any master with his salt, he would reward her for her obedience. He would be exceedingly firm, but he would also be as fair as he could be. He had notchosen the instrument of his revenge at random. He had chosen a beautiful submissive. And what was a submissive if not adaptable -if not a survivor?”

“I wrapped my arms around him and held on as hard as I could. He was my tormentor and my solace: the creator of the dark and the light within. I didn’t care that he would undoubtedly hurt me at any moment, right now; I just needed somebody to hold me… To tell me these exact words. Its going to be okay. It wasn’t of course, I knew that. But I didn’t care, I needed the lie.”

Livvie was terrified, but oh so brave, her character was willful and not easy to brake, she can’t’ understand what’s going on, why her?? Why him …. Especially why he, a man that makes her teenaged unexperienced body feel things that she has never before experienced …

Caleb was hard to like , he was cruel and very difficult to read at times , but somehow I was seeing that there was not all bad inside him…  he was put in situations that made him who he was and that was undeniably understandable …to a point obviously!!

The first book totally left make reeling!! I just needed to know what was going to happen … my angst levels where so over the roof ….

And then book to just shattered me!! It crushed my little Hurt!! L

“I’ve been doing this a long time- manipulating people to get my way. That’s why you think you love me. Because I’ve broken you down and built you back up to believe it. It wasn’t an accident. Once you leave this behind….. you’ll see that. -Caleb”

We get to experiences what Livvie went thru and the evolution of Caleb’s feeling towards her , all in an environment full of twisted people and sex slaves !!!

I feel so many things reading this book … I can’t even …

“It seemed to Caleb, the nature of human being revolved around one empirical truth: we want what we cannot have. For Eve, it was the fruit of the forbidden tree. For Caleb, it was Livvie.”

Wow as I re-read it last week I remembered why I loved it so much, C. J. Robert can tell a story like a few people can ,I have read several stories about the kidnaped/sex slave  theme, and I have enjoyed then very much , but for some reason I always compare the to The Dark Duet !!!

I don’t want to spoil you the amazing book by telling too much, because this book is a trip that you must endure by yourself.

Just a quick reminder, that the last book is an Epilogue of sorts and is in Caleb’s point of view and what could be better than that!!

“I’m writing this because you begged. You know how I love the begging”  -Caleb in Epilogue

Sooooo GO READ IT, I don’t want you to miss out.

Accordance ,Defiance and Independence (Significance series) by Shelly Crane

BOOK:  Accordance ,Defiance and Independence by Shelly Crane

Maggie learns much more about all the strange things that happened to her, and has to face new ones. She rebels against it, but ultimately, must face it for her new families sake and maybe even her life. Bish went from being her biggest supporter to her biggest pain in the butt and Kyle’s intentions to attract her interest may not be so innocent. Caleb and Maggie face many new obstacles together and fight to work through them but will one that should be a good thing be too much for Maggie to handle?

In the third installment of the Significance series, we begin with Maggie and Caleb in the clutches of a new enemy; the Virtuoso council. Not only do they have to deal with the consequences of taking the lives of the Watsons and the council attempting to take Maggie away to keep their precious Visionary safe, but they must deal with Marla as well. Then Maggie’s father and Bish are threatened but the council forbids the presence of humans. Peter and the family fight and stand beside them every step of the way to save Maggie’s father, to keep Caleb and Maggie together when the corrupted council is so set on keeping them apart and to stop Marla and whatever she has up her sleeve. Then Maggie has the shock of her life when she discovers something about her real father. It may change everything for everyone. Stay tuned as the story continues.

In the fourth and final installment, Maggie and Caleb must tie up all the loose ends of their lives and make a way to be together completely on their own. With everything that happened with Bish and Maggie’s father, she’s almost reluctant to move on and move out. And now she must figure out all of this…stuff…with Haddock. But of course, nothing can stay simple for the Jacobsons. Enemies who were thought to be dissolved have decided to not go down so easily. And old flames come calling for more than just Maggie. Caleb is torn between leading his family and personal wants. Maggie is torn between Caleb and being the leader of their people. But neither will let what they need most to be pushed to the wayside. They are determined to make it all work, design a plan toward destiny, and make everything right again for themselves and their family.

This review is about the last 3 books in the series at the same time so that’s why it’s kind of patched together….  (Best to do them all at once instead of dragging along)

Dang it’s so goooooooood , I cant believe how much I’m liking this series , in this one they go to California to take some time away from the other clan that is making their lives hell , but apparently hell chases them down there ,along with apprehensive brothers and jealous cousins.

Maggie and Caleb are getting stronger and more daring in their relationship as they are becoming closer and more comfortable with their feelings and each other.

This book was super fun to read and the other characters in the book took more of a center stage so we could get to know them a little more.

And Caleb … oh Caleb, he was as swoon worthy as ever, (so sweet and perfect)

The world of this series keeps getting better and better and expanding, so I’, looking forward to the next installment.

Ohhh the only thing was that the cliffhanger was TERRIBLE… I’m going to have to keep reading, there’s just no other way around it…

In the third book they are already in London , and Marla is stirring some shit , cause she is trying slander Maggie’s character and that way she is deflecting from the Thompson’s plan to get ride of her for ever.

But Maggie and Caleb know what there are up to , they just need to fond a way to get everybody else to believe them and support them.

Maggie just wants to be good at the Visionary role , and do right by her people , but she just wants to be treated as a normal person , which is very much dislike by the council

Maggie is getting better and better at  understanding her powers and where they come from , so that makes her much more able to stand in front of her family and be the leader they want her to be.

There’s a lot more action in this book and that made it one of the most entertaining one of the whole lot.

The last book so far was a  great book , but I must say it’s  not my favorite , but it was fun to read and it wrap up the hole story nicely , Caleb is still swoon worthy and Becks which is an important character at the beginning of this story  is still a bit of a tool as a friend.

The different couples all have their day in the sun, and the Thompsons are still and issue , which proves to be quite challenging at some point.

The relationship between Caleb and Maggie is a strong as it can be , an Kyle finally is less annoying , I don’t want to give any more away , but even as the story is wrap up nicely it felt just a little flat at the end for me , I don’t know … I just … there’s something missing maybe ??

Well … all in all this series is very good and if you like Y.A this one is very entertaining…

This part was a little steamier than the others, but still pretty tame (which is good, considering that this is for younger readers) … and as much as I like it the final book let me a little… mmm I don’t know , but I definitely recommend it , it’s just that maybe I was expecting more of a BANG !!! or something,  but it’s a  great  read none the less.

Significance (Significance #1) by Shelly Crane

BOOK: Significance (Significance #1) by Shelly Crane

MY RATING FOR IT : 4 1/2 stars

Maggie is a seventeen year old girl who’s had a bad year. She was smart and on track, but then her mom left, her dad is depressed, she’s graduating – barely – and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football scholarship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has.

Then she saves the life of Caleb and instantly knows there’s something about him that’s intriguing. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally.

They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she’s ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive.

Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb’s enemies know he’s imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him.

Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

Holly Y.A. heaven, this book is like a drug, I loved it. I can’t get enough of it, I don’t know why  took me so long to read it , it has sat on my I-pad for ages, and suddenly I felt the urge to read it , so here it goes.

Maggie is a regular 17 years old teenage girl, with problems like any other girl , well maybe a little more so since her mother left her and her father and he is kind of catatonic in his grief, And to top it all her boyfriend Chad left her to go to college on a football scholarship.

She is graduating early from high school, and after a very disappointing graduation ceremony, she decides to go out with her friend Kyle, who has always had kind of a crush on her.

While she waits for his call to get together, she stop at a red light and meets a very good-looking boy, that almost got crushed by a car, except she saver him and he fall on top of her. So here comes Caleb, the handsome leading men!! (SWOON!!!!). Caleb is in college, he is older than Maggie, but she fell an instant connection to him , and apparently so does him, he decides to walk Maggie to where she is going and suddenly they realize that Caleb and Kyle are cousins (after seeing Maggie with Caleb this is something that doesn’t sit very well with Kyle).

Kyle is ready to go on the date with Maggie, but she feel she has to say good bye to this boy, so she goes to him and after a very small touch they imprint on each other!!!  , because actually Caleb and Kyle are not really Humans they are supernatural and they bond as soul mates instantly, feeling desperately for one another.

Their hearts beat together and they can’t stand to be separated, I mean it actually hurts to be apart, so this is insta-love in its finest form!!

But obviously as soon as they start to kind of date (leaving aside the soul mates for ever and stuff) all hell breaks loose, because her dad’ suddenly is very interested in her well being, and he friend Becks and ex boyfriend Chad are not very helpful, neither is Kyle who is actually hurting over Maggie and Caleb’s relationship, and add to the mix a near clan that wants to hurt Maggie and Caleb’s family.

So this book is all about the discovery of a new young love and how to deal with very strong urges and feeling for one another, a very deep passion and the changes that all this brings to their lives, especially Maggie’s.

Well I certainly love the Character and really found the story to be so entertaining; it was a joy to read. I’m totally reading the next books, I need my Caleb fix!!

It’s so great to  read a good Y.A book that grave me this feeling of giddiness  (the last one  was the Obsidian series) and even tough this kind of books obviously are a lot more tamed that the regular books I read , I love them just as much.
